Dual Pocket Doors Made with Sing Core

People often think of doors as simple barriers or entryways, but at Sing Core, we know that a door can be much more than that. Doors can be elegant accents to a room’s design, or a seamless way to change a room’s layout. If done right, they can even be part of a room’s main design feature, such as in the example we’re showing you today.

This customer needed a way to separate two areas of the house, but was fairly limited in their options due to their design preference. Due to the height of the room, a standard door would not work unless they expanded on the center wall, which would majorly damage the flow and beauty of the room. A normal sliding door would work, but the dimensions would be incredibly difficult to get right. The door would have to be incredibly tall, yet narrow, which would need to be custom made. If this was done with traditional materials, the doors would likely be too heavy to work reliably, and could damage their hardware. Sing Core, however, was a great solution.

Because Sing Core panels are made with a honeycomb core, they are incredibly lightweight, yet still very strong. This means that the custom doors would still be sturdy and long lasting, but due to their low weight, they’d also be easy to use and be far less likely to damage their hardware. In fact, each of these doors only weigh 200 pounds, despite being over 13 feet tall.

These twin pocket doors measure 40 inches wide by 158 inches tall, and are 2.5 inches thick. This tall and narrow design worked beautifully for the room, though is definitely a non-standard size. Getting a door like this without having it custom made would be impossible, but luckily Sing Core specializes in large, high end custom doors.

A Sing Core door can be ordered to nearly any shape or size, and are strong, lightweight, and durable. One major concern with large doors is the possibility of warping, which gets exponentially more likely, and often exponentially worse, with larger doors. In the case of this project, even just a slight warp could ruin the entire system. A little bend or twist could leave a door stuck in its pocket, or scraping the side as it is opened and closed, damaging both the door and the wall nearby. There are many ways a warp can hinder or ruin a door, and often, warps are irrecoverable. Sing Core doors are guaranteed to never warp, and we can make that claim due to our innovative and patented honeycomb core. In fact, each door panel comes with a 50 Year Warp-Free and Structural Guarantee, so you can rest easy without worrying about your door failing on you.

Sing Core is thrilled to have had the chance to work on this beautiful project, and we hope to work on your next amazing project with you. Submit a quote request on our website to learn what we can do for you!

Lounge Room Door Made With Sing Core

Sing Core has been working with several universities regarding custom doors lately, such as with the University of Idaho and their arena door, the University of Alabama and a sorority house door, and now the University of Maryland with a custom sliding door for one of their lounges.

|

The University of Maryland worked with the brilliant people at USAM to get a large custom sliding door for their Heritage Community lounge room, and they reached out to Sing Core to make that work. Sing Core and USAM worked together to create a beautiful 3 piece modular sliding door. This door can separate into three panels along the sliding track, allowing for a custom setup to the walkway. It can also be completely opened and closed in order to really open up the area.

This large sliding door measures 168 inches wide by 120 inches tall, and is 2 inches thick. It contained splines to stiffen the panels and further improve the structural integrity, as well as a Formica finishing panel to give it that gorgeous end result. The door parts slide along an upper rail, which provides smooth and reliable operation.

This lounge room is in Pyon-Chen hall, one of two areas that make up the Heritage Community at UMD. It is a multipurpose location, intended to suit all sorts of recreational and student needs. Due to the location, the unique modular aspect, and the traffic, the designers of this door needed to make sure they got a high quality, durable, and long lasting product. That is why they went with Sing Core, and we are honored that they did!

Sing Core panels have many benefits over traditional door making methods, but there are three main ones that relate to a project like this: strength and durability, weight, and lifespan.

Sing Core doors are incredibly strong and durable, though surprisingly lightweight. This is possible due to the patented honeycomb core used within every Sing Core door. This honeycomb core provides exceptional strength and impact resistance, while also remaining amazingly lightweight. Where a traditional door panel may take several people to haul and install, most Sing Core panels can be carried by only two people, and even one if the panel is sized right.

The patented core and high grade materials used also give our doors outstanding durability, preventing many of the damages that would otherwise leave a door ugly or unusable. Especially being in a high-traffic area such as a university lounge room, durability, impact resistance, and longevity are vital. Heavy traffic walkways can see increased damage to the doors and walls around them. Sing Core doors aren’t easily damaged, and if they do receive a ding or scratch, they are easy to repair. In addition, all Sing Core panels are guaranteed to be warp-free for 50 years, which is unheard of in the door market. Warped doors are a massive problem, and unfortunately, many doors can eventually warp, regardless of the care put into making them. Sing Core doors, however, are guaranteed to never warp, and that is all thanks to the unique construction used to make them.

Sing Core is thrilled to have had the chance to work on this amazing project. Thanks again to the University of Maryland and the talented design and installation teams, as this would not have been possible without them.

Hideaway Bar Made with Sing Core

At Sing Core, we are always looking to highlight amazing and creative projects and uses for our door panels. This recent hideaway bar door does just that, and it looks incredible, too!

This customer wanted a door that could cleanly close and conceal the bar behind it, then upon opening have the doors slide and store inside the revealed room. This minimizes the footprint of the door system and allows for a much cleaner, less intrusive appearance and function. In order to make this work, our client needed a high quality, lightweight, and durable door panel, as something without these qualities simply wouldn’t work.

A lightweight panel was required, as anything heavy would ultimately wear down and break the hardware used to mount it. This is especially true in cases like this where precise and fine tuned hardware must be used to achieve the desired function. Heavy and unwieldy panels would greatly reduce the lifespan of these beautiful doors, which is one of the primary reasons this designer went with Sing Core.

When dealing with doors that have as unique of a function as these do, you need something you can rely on to last for a very long time. Repairs to door systems like this can be costly and difficult, sometimes requiring the complete replacement of various parts. That’s another major reason why a Sing Core panel was used for this project, as both the client company and the end user can remain confident with such a high quality product. Sing Core panels are guaranteed to remain warp-free and structurally sound for 50 years, so the customer doesn’t have to worry about a panel warping over time and ruining their door system.

.

The customizability of Sing Core panels is another great feature for unique projects such as this. The client had very specific requirements for their panels, which is reflected in the shop drawing to the right. This shop drawing shows the specifications for both of the panels used in this project. The panels needed to be exactly 33 inches wide, 112.5 inches tall, and 1.75 inches thick. These doors were made to professional grade quality and finished with MDF. Once sent to the client, they were able to provide the final details needed to turn these into the beautiful doors you see in these pictures.

While Sing Core is typically used for large custom doors, office sliding doors, and more, we still enjoy seeing the creative use of our panels’ versatility, such as in this project. If you have a project in which you need a custom, lightweight, and strong door or wall panel, don’t hesitate to visit our website and submit a quote request. We can’t wait to work with you!

Sorority House Installs Sing Core Door

The University of Alabama is an outstanding institution with a vast amount of students, clubs, and organizations. Among these proud groups are fraternities and sororities, particularly the Tri Delta Sorority. Tri Delta is a sisterhood that was formed in 1888 by two young women, and has continued to be a fun and inclusive community for students ever since.

The Project

The Tri Delta sorority house serves many purposes and hosts many events, some of which are meetings in a set meeting hall. This hall needed a large sliding door to allow entrance from the nearby chamber, and the amazing designers at Ellis Architects worked with Sing Core to make that door happen. The door consists of two panels, both measuring 89 inches by 103.5 inches, and was finished with 3/8 inch MDF.

Why They Chose Sing Core

There are many reasons why the designers and builders chose Sing Core for this project, and several of them come down to the needs of the room and the benefits of Sing Core. Some of the main reasons builders use Sing Core is for the strength, durability, and lightweight nature of our panels. These benefits apply to every use. A strong door is essential to withstanding impacts and heavy traffic, and being lightweight improves a door’s function, ease of use, and extends the life of its hardware. A durable door means it will continue to function for a long time without needing repair or replacement, and Sing Core hits all three of these points.

Light and Strong

Sing Core doors are pound for pound stronger than steel, and incredibly lightweight. This is achieved through our patented honeycomb core construction technology. Our core is strong and insulated, as well as very light. It can out-perform other conventional building methods while remaining a fraction of their weight. This lightweight nature also improves its ease of use, as a lighter door is going to swing or slide open much easier than a heavier version.

Durable and Long-Lasting

It seems an odd thought to many that a door can fail, but it happens all the time. Doors made in various ways can bend, warp, crack, delaminate, or do one of many other catastrophic things that renders them useless. Sometimes these issues can be repaired, but it’s best to never have them happen in the first place. Sing Core doors are incredibly durable, and carry the industry’s only 50 Year Warp and Fail Free Guarantee. Our doors will never warp, bend, twist, or otherwise fail, and that is all due to our innovative honeycomb core and the high quality materials we use in the construction process.

Other Perks of Sing Core

There are even more reasons why Sing Core was the best pick for this project, including design versatility and sound reduction. Sing Core has many different options when it comes to panel design, including custom dimensions, numerous options for finish, and other optional traits. In addition, our insulated core provides added sound dampening, reducing noise pollution and allowing the meeting hall to remain focused and isolated from outside noise.

Sing Core is honored to have been included in this project, and are thrilled with the amazing design work of Ellis Architects and the installation of the building team. If you are an architect or designer interested in using Sing Core for a project, we encourage you to submit a quote on our website so we can discuss how Sing Core can elevate your project.

New Park Opens With 10 Sing Core Doors

Charleston, South Carolina recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new park, Carr-Richardson park. The park features a mid-sized structure for community gatherings, and the amazing builders of this project decided to use Sing Core for the doors.

The structure features 10 total Sing Core doors, all of which are beautiful artisan grade sliding doors. 2 doors measure 53 inches by 121 inches, while 8 of them are 79.5 inches by 121 inches, making these overall quite large doors.

To the right is one of the shop drawings used in the concept creation process of these doors.

The park went with Sing Core for a few reasons, one of which being the size of the panels they needed. Traditional panels of this size would be incredibly heavy, and if they weren’t, they would have to sacrifice strength in order to shed some weight. Sing Core panels are both lightweight and strong thanks to the patented honeycomb core used inside.

The doors can be seen all around the building, mainly near the numerous glass windows it has. These doors are attached to rollers above the windows, and intended to slide over and cover them when needed. This could be handy for protecting the windows from severe weather, potential break ins and vandalization, and more.

Sing Core panels are also a great choice for this feature, as their inherent strength and impact resistance allows them to protect the building for many years to come.

The architect that the city consulted for the job was Liollio Architecture and the construction was contracted through Mashburn Construction, both of which are local to South Carolina. Liollio did an amazing job with the designing of this park, and Mashburn’s construction and installation of the doors was incredible. Beautiful end results like this simply aren’t possible without amazing designers and construction professionals.

An article talking about the park was written after its grand opening, which you can read here.

We are thrilled to have been a part of this project, and are tremendously grateful for the business and support of the teams involved in creating this park. Sing Core takes great pride in public projects such as this, as it allows us an opportunity to give to the community and encourage more people-first projects.

If you’re working on designing or constructing a park, building, or other public place, consider using Sing Core for the best doors on the market. You can learn more about the applications of Sing Core in public places here.

Millennium Tower Seattle

The Millennium Tower

The skyline of Seattle is adorned with beautiful spires and towers, and the Millennium Tower is one of the structures to call that sky home. Standing at over 280 feet tall, the Millennium Tower is a testament to luxury and design, as it is home to 19 prestigious condos and sits right off the water in Downtown Seattle.

The Millennium Tower was designed by the Olson Kundig architect firm, and the individual homes within were designed by the architects from Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership. This brilliant combination of efforts has led to one of the most incredible living spaces in the Seattle area, and Sing Core is honored to have been involved in this project.

Sing Core was contacted regarding a large pocket door for the interior of the tower, specifically within one of the condos, measuring 54.5 tall inches by 111.5 inches wide, and 2.25 inches thick. This door weighs approximately 200 pounds, which is substantially less than a door of this size would if made using traditional methods and materials.

Why Sing Core?

Sing Core has long been sought after for use in high end and luxury homes, penthouses, and more. Our patented and patent-pending technologies allow us to create the highest quality lightweight door and wall panels, without compromising on strength or durability. Our panels can be made to nearly any size and specification, and are pound-for-pound stronger than steel. These features, along with the many other benefits of Sing Core, are what led the design teams to utilize our product.

Another large reason the company decided to go with Sing Core was in regards to the type of door they were wanting. Our panel was used to make a large pocket door, which are notoriously difficult. First, pocket doors are a variant of sliding doors that slide into a “pocket” within a wall instead of sliding in front of the wall itself. These doors must be perfectly straight, otherwise they will not fit within the tight space in the wall. Pocket doors are also severely limited on their weight, as a heavy pocket door can prove difficult to use and damaging for the hardware.

Another major complication with pocket doors, especially of this size, is the risk of warping. A warped door is never good, and often leads to total structure failure and replacement. The larger the door, however, the more likely it is to warp due to the increased tension on the surface. Plus, with pocket doors, even the slightest warp can ruin the door and stop it from functioning. A little bend can cause the rollers to jam or break, or if the warp is significant enough, it can start to scrape along the wall inside, or get stuck in the pocket entirely. Luckily, Sing Core doors never warp, and are guaranteed to not warp or fail for 50 Years.

A Successful Project

Despite all of this, an excellent design, a skilled construction crew, and a flawless Sing Core panel led to a gorgeous condo within this incredible building. Unique projects such as these are what allow the luxury design world to thrive, and Sing Core is proud to have been involved in something that is such a testament to this industry.

New Hidden Door Made by Sing Core

Secret Door Made by Sing Core

Are you a homeowner? While Sing Core only sells to industry professionals, we invite you to check out our guide for homeowners to learn how you can get Sing Core for your house!

Secret or hidden doors, while sounding like something out of a fantasy or mystery novel, are a very real and unique feature that many people put into their homes. These doors are practically invisible, blending in with their surroundings and closing to be completely flush with the nearby walls. This Sing Core customer requested just that, and these photos show the product during and after installation. Continue reading to learn how Sing Core can bring amazing hidden doors to your customers!

Why a Hidden Door?

The use for these doors may seem secretive or sinister, but in reality it is often just a clever way to separate rooms without having the appearance of a doorway. For example, if your customer has a lounge room or something similar meant to entertain guests, they may not want a closet door visible among the decorated walls. However, a closet would be the perfect place to store games or other entertaining essentials, so they don’t want to simply skip having one, either. Thus, a hidden door allows the best of both, giving the utility of a closet without having to compromise on appearance.

Sometimes, hidden doors are used to conceal panic rooms or areas of importance as well. This is more closely related to what most people think of when they hear the term “hidden” or “secret” door, and it is a valid purpose. However, not the only one.

How Do They Work?

Hidden doors can function in a variety of ways, often as a flush sliding door as a cleverly disguised pivot or hinge door. They are also often called jib doors, referring to their flush-to-the-wall nature. Regardless of the mechanism, they are trimmed to perfectly and seamlessly align with the surrounding wall, then usually decorated with trim or other details to fully conceal them. All in all, they are not much more difficult to install or use than a standard doorway between rooms. They do, however, take much more effort in precision and detail, which is why Sing Core is the industry’s go-to for hidden door panels.

Sing Core for Hidden Doors

Due to the importance of precision and function, Sing Core panels work great for hidden doors. Sing Core panels are the most accurate, dimensionally stable, and warp free material out there when it comes to door panels. Our panels are incredibly strong, and yet lightweight enough to be easy to install and provide less wear on the hardware. They are also structurally guaranteed, as each professional panel comes with a 50 Year Warp-Free and Structural guarantee. It isn’t good for any door to warp or bend, but especially for a hidden door, as that not only limits its function, but also its core design. It’s much harder to “hide” something that is bending out from the wall. That is why we recommend using Sing Core, as you not only get a high quality and one-of-a-kind product, but also the 50 year promise that the hidden door will continue to look and work beautifully.

“I look forward to using them again.” – Sing Core 7 Door Order Review

Sing Core Customer Testimonial

At Sing Core, we value a job well done and the kind words of our customers. This customer was pleased enough with their order to leave a review, and we’re grateful to them for doing so! Here’s what they had to say:

“As an Architect, I engaged Sing Core to produce large scale slabs for seven pivot doors for an artist’s studio.  The doors were of a scale and proportion that required a core that was light, stable and would not warp.  Singcore was able to produce what we needed in a timely manner.  The product was cost effective given the scale and quantity.  Our millworker found the product easy to work with and was able to install all required hardware effectively as Singcore provided all the requested blocking and made it easy to coordinate.

I look forward to using them again.”

The Order

This was a large order, consisting of seven large paint grade doors. The order was placed by an architect who was working on a large scale project, and they were very pleased with the product they received.

The order was mostly comprised of 96” x 60” x 3” panels, all professional grade and ready for paint. The doors were built to be put in an artist studio in Chicago as pivot doors, and the installation team did an amazing job finishing and mounting these beautiful doors.

Why Sing Core?

Sing Core panels are used for a variety of doors between many different sizes, and due to our patented honeycomb core they work particularly well for large doors. This, among other reasons, is why the client went with Sing Core for their project. With as many large doors as they were making, they needed to ensure each one had the qualities that Sing Core promises with each one of our panels. Those qualities include strength, durability, a lightweight nature, and remaining warp free.

As large doors, these would be particularly prone to warping due to their increased surface area. A warped door causes a number of issues, sometimes up to complete failure of the door and damage to the nearby area. Since these were put into an artist studio, they needed to be able to withstand constant traffic, equipment movement, and more without failing. Sing Core panels are impact resistant, long lasting, and guaranteed warp free. In fact, every door panel we produce comes with a 50 Year Warp-Free and Structural Guarantee to ensure you never have to worry about these issues. For a seven door order of large doors, the client was very pleased with the warranty, as well as the end result and quality of the delivered product.

How Can You Get Sing Core Doors?

If you want to get Sing Core doors for your next big project, feel free to submit a quote request on our website! We’d be more than happy to discuss details with you and get you an estimate.
