Architectural Specification Substitutes

Due to being the newly invented and possibly the most significant improvement in building materials in the last century, it is not uncommon to see Sing products recommended as substitutes for products in the original specifications initially specified by architects. Even though Sing Core is new, we are not that new and have years of experience to assure or most demanding clients that they only deliver the best to their clients.

Why would you substitute Sing Core?

Eco-friendly

Lightweight high strength torsion box foam core varuiety of thicknesses and wood speciesIn this day and age, it is of primary importance to take into consideration that the impact of your project will have on the earth. Everything we do to help preserve our precious planet is a step toward providing a better world for all life for generations to come. Sing Core’s true green technology is a huge step toward responsible sustainability.

Lightweight

One of important advantages of sing Core is its lightweightedness when compared to other building products. Other traditional building components that can even come close to matching the lightweight characteristics of Sing Core are extremely weak and have little or no structural integrity. This might be acceptable for visual representation upon installation, but may deteriorate rapidly over time, something that you might need to consider in the design process.

Extremely High Strength

Sing Core is super strong, so strong, in fact, that independently tested results from the University of Washington revealed a PSI of 660-to-over-1,100 pounds per square inch of compression strength, which is stronger than steel pound for pound. This is why you see Sing Core substituted in extreme weather, under heavy loads, maintain strength over long spans, blast and bullet proof applications.

True Flat

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAPrior to the invention of Sing Core it was nearly impossible – or extremely expensive and laborious – to build a true flat door (or any other surface desired to be flat over a long span with little or no framing). In fact, current regulations for flatness allow for a ¼” of deflection over a 6 foot span. Sing Core outperforms any other material and can be combined with wood and other products and still be guaranteed true flat.

Inexpensive

You might be surprised that a building material that is made in the USA cost much less than other composite materials and is so affordable, that it is not priced much more than particle board and can end up being much more inexpensive especially when you factor-in savings in shipping, handling, installation and maintenance costs.

Guaranteed for Life

Sing Core is such a structurally sound building material that it is possibly the only material that can be guaranteed for life, but is designed and built to last for centuries, with little or no deterioration over time, when product is used as specified. When product is properly matched to application, sing Core will not warp, bend, twist or rot, like other materials.

And that only comprises the top half-dozen reasons that people are switching to Sing Core.

As the project owner, you may have just found us on the Internet and want to see Sing Core featured in your project due to all the added benefits. We work hand-in-hand with designers, architects, contractors and homeowners to make sure that you have the right Sing products to match your requirements and specifications. This makes the job safer and more efficient for your general contractor and your architect will thank you for being diligent and for introducing them to Sing Core which they will continue to include in future designs.

How to Specify Sing Core Inside Your Doors

When specifying Sing Core inside your doors, you can specify “Sing Core” as the manufacturer but note that the doors will need to be finished by a millwork or custom door manufacturer. This about how this might impact the price (important for contractor during price estimations). It would also be helpful to also specify weight ratio of “3 to 4 pounds per square foot” and “50 year warp-free guarantee,” to prevent substitution by the contractor. You don’t want your client to end up with a substituted non-Sing door and be unaware of it until it warps later (see example).

Does Your Door Have Sing Core Inside?

If your door has Sing Core inside it can come with a full 50-year warp-free guarantee. No other door can be guaranteed like that, unless it has Sing Core inside.

It is rare, but there have been occasions when a door has warped, when someone thought it had Sing Core inside, but it did not.

For instance, last year, an architect in Florida specified a large wooden door with Sing Core inside. The contractor contacted Sing Core and received an initial price quote.

Nine months later, we received a call from the architect who had been contacted by the building department that reported that a large wooden door with Sing Core inside had warped.

We searched our records and could not find any record of the job. We did discover the initial price quote request from the contractor who must have found a different way to make the large door.

Your large door with Sing Core inside comes with a certificate of authenticity and guarantee.

Be forewarned, if your large wooden door doesn’t have Sing Core inside, you can expect it to warp.

Make sure your large doors have Sing Core inside.

Not Just for Doors

true-flat-doors-in-quantity-fast-delivery-coast-to-coast-compareCertainly, we are best known for our door applications, and for many years, people thought of us as a door company because of how superior this material is in that specific application. We are the only door that can be guaranteed even after being exposed to weather conditions and no other wood door can be guaranteed true flat.

Rarely does a day go by where we don’t see someone versed in contemporary architecture design who reaches out to Sing Core to solve another issue of strength vs. weight, saving economically by reducing shipping, handling, installation, repair and maintenance costs, and upgrading the overall green value of a project.

If you have just discovered Sing Core, it is not too late to substitute sing products for the traditional products that were originally specified by your architect. Click for More on Connection Methods

Since standard Sing museum and trade show panels feature built-in wood frames and have many skin options such as  wood, metal, HPL, FRP, magnesium board (for sound deadening), as exterior treatment, simple carpentry skills and wood working tools are all that is needed to modify or beautify your panels on site completing your work of art. You will not confused by European imported museum panels that come with dozens of metal parts and heavy aluminum frames to reinforce the panel’s strength. Alternatively Sing Museum Walls, shelves and displays embrace good, old-fashioned American wood craftmanship. European import paper core and particle board lack the strength compared to patented Sing Core and solid skins provided by Sing Museum wall panels.

It’s amazing what an impact some wood trim/molding can add to the appearance of your project. We can provide finishing at extra charge, or you can do it yourself in house.

Even though Sing Panels can be joined in any configuration or designed to your specifications we have a system available for our standard 2.25″ panels that include a connector stile with cam-lock receptacles to match your Sing Panels and we can accommodate any angle to meet your requirements.

* Note: STC rating varies according to size, thickness, skin, and other factors. Sing Core does not rate doors, although we are fortunate enough to have one of the best sound testing labs in the world, here in the Pacific Northwest. If you require a specific STC rating, Sing Core can build a door to your architectural specifications and have the resulting door tested at our rating facility for an official rating.

There are many ways to join Sing Panels

Simple Joining

The simplest and least expensive way to join sing panels is to join in any way according to your budget and/or expertise.

Due to Sing Panels being so straight and true it is easier to join panels together because they line up perfectly unlike other building materials.

sing-core-panel-cam-locks-3sing-core-panel-cam-locks-2In many cases, for instance, standard 4×8 panels can be nailed, glued or channel-joined quickly and easily with satisfactory results.

Other options for fastening panels may include cam locks (see examples left and right) that can be pre-installed, making assembly and joining easy and more secure.

The Sing cam-lock panel solution is a high-demand solution for panels that are routinely assembled and disassembled, especially in moveable walls, trade show booths, and various wall cladding applications. See: Cam Lock Panels

Thru-bolt Joining

One of the most inexpensive and secure ways to join sing panels is by utilizing a simple nut and bolt connection method, especially, if the panels will be routinely or repeatedly assembled and disassembled.

Stainless steel nuts and bolts offer the safety and security when joining sing panels.

Biscuit Joining

In many cases, Sing Panels can be pre-configured for biscuit joining at your site of factory.

Especially for large projects, this enables Sing Core panels to be sent individually, reducing shipping and handling costs, for assembly at your facility or job site.

Edge Banding

Unless specified Sing Panels do not ship edge-banded as 93% of our wholesale customers do their own edge-banding when finishing their Sing Panel.

Edge banding can take many forms from vinyl and plastic to wood and steel. Sing Panels are not intended for use as an un-banded product and may not qualify for our 50 year warranty if un-banded.

If your intention is to get the best, most long-lasting performance from your Sing Panels, feel free to take advantage of our free consultation to be guaranteed to achieve the results that you desire.

Advanced Large Panels

Sing Core specializes in extremely large panels (up to 50 feet) that are extremely true flat and use our nearly seamless assembly process.

This is the most high-end and expensive process where we perform the highly specialized meticulous work in our factory yielding the high level of perfection that many of our most discerning clients require. See: our clients.

These must be manufactured in our plant to ensure accuracy with tolerances within thousandths of an inch and are more costly to ship due to the nature of their being larger than multiple panels that can be assembled on-site.

Connectors for Connecting

Cam-Locks

One of our many features is the ability to add fasteners/locks to our panels…one example of this is the “S-Hook Lock” with a turn of the hex wrench you can fasten or unfasten your panels quickly.

The “S-Hook” fastening lock that is attached to the side of these panels to allow for easy assembly of the wall system.

With a quick turn of your wrist on the hex key your panels will be attached to each other.

Barn Door Assembly or ‘H’ Channel

If you are planning to keep your panels as a permanent structure you may choose the H-Channel attachment feature. Apply your adhesive the slide panel into the channel on each side then either veneer over the panel and channel or you may choose to putty, sand and paint your panels to cover over the H-channel.

Tongue and Groove

Tongue and groove is another fastening choice especially if you using our panels for flooring or ceiling. Make a nice almost seamless connection but give wood veneer a hardwood flooring appearance.

Biscuit Joint

This is a modified biscuit joint attachment. Similar to the H-joint the you are using a single long “beam” as the connector and gluing them together. Best use is for oversize tables (such as vacuum tables) and oversize doors as well. Because our panels are made of honeycomb rather than solid wood, they will not warp. Our honeycomb is light and strong.

Ship Lap

The ever popular ship lap as a connector alternative.
