About Pivot Doors

Pivot doors are the number one type of doors built with SingCore inside, especially if your pivot door is a large, oversized one that could present problems for those tasked with building, installing, and maintaining a pivot door of such magnitude.

Why?

Those big pivot doors are heavy, hard to manage, require specialized hardware, and have increased maintenance schedules as they add stress and strain to the hardware and structure if in regular use. The biggest pivot doors have huge potential to cause problems for the end user by warping and requiring regular maintenance, plus they must float, perfectly balanced between two points of contact. The smallest variance can render the pivot system inoperable.

About Pivot Doors with Sing Core Inside

Pivot doors which are made using the patented and patent-pending Sing Core technologies are celebrated around the world as being the best pivot doors in the world.

Why Do You Need Sing Core Inside Your Pivot Door?

Pivot Door Problem

It’s well-known pivot doors fail more often than hinged doors because there’s only two points of contact on a pivot door. On a hinged door there are three or more anchor points on one side of the door to help keep the door straight. If a pivot door warps, bends, twists, or cups, the operation of the door can be severely compromised or fail altogether. If you have a large pivot door (over 7 ft. in any direction) failure is far more frequent.

Pivot Door Solution

THAT is why you need Sing Core inside your door. Using Sing Core is the only way to build a lightweight pivot door that is stronger than steel which comes with a full warp-free and structure guarantee for 50 years.

Designers and Architects are establishing a new trend in the architectural impact of structures that garner attention at first glance by greeting visitors with a large pivot door. The larger the front pivot door, the more impressive and attention-grabbing.

Large pivot front doors create the greatest impact when a structure is seen for the first time. These oversized pivot door are big and thick, and the bigger the better. These big pivot doors are taller, wider and heftier than other traditional front door styles. Even real estate developers are installing large pivoting entry doors in high end homes for that extra hit in the curb appeal presentation.

Though some door manufacturers build and stock standard pivot doors, ready to install, the high end large pivot doors are custom manufactured for each installation by millworks, craftsmen or custom door manufacturers. Each pivot door is like an individual work of art.

Pivot Door Swing

Large extreme edge pivoting hardware for large swing wooden room dividers with man door Pivot doors are often thought of as having a center pivot point. A pivot door with a center pivot defines the maximum access as basically one-half the door width, because in the fully open position, the pivot door blocks the center of the opening due to the location of the pivot. Large pivot doors may have no problems as a 10 foot wide pivot door can still have a 5 foot access opening.

Center pivots are not your only options when considering a pivot door, as the pivots can be placed at any location. Moving the pivot point of your pivot door more to one side or the other creates a greater egress area on one side than the other. For maximum opening, an extreme edge pivot point can be used for your pivot door, so that it operates very similarly to a swing hinge door. Example: 10×12 extreme edge double pivot doors in the Center for Architecture & Design, Seattle, Washington are each twelve feet wide, five inches thick and open for a full 23 feet of access (also feature a man door for easy access when in the closed position).

Tall Pivot Doors

A large pivot door can span from floor to ceiling of any structure as well as being very wide and thick.

Pivot Sliding Door

Another growth segment in pivoting doors is a method that combines the best of two types of door hardware to develop a pivot sliding door using multiple floor to ceiling pivoting door panels alternatively hinged and retrofitted in sliding door hardware to produce large accordion door wall systems. These pivot sliding door wall units create complete separation between any two rooms, functioning as folding stacking doors, yet when fully opened reveal one large space.

Pivot Door Materials

Pivot doors can be made of any flat building material including materials that would be impossible to make a hinge door due to the weight. The design of the pivoting hardware can accommodate a pivoting entry door that is many, many times heavier than any hinge door.

Large pivot door can be manufactured using available materials such as cement, metals (aluminum, cold rolled steel, copper, galvanized steel, hot rolled steel, stainless steel, steel diamond plate, etc…), natural or exotic woods (alder, bird’s eye maple, cedar, cypress, mahogany, olive, redwood, walnut, willow, etc… ), stone (granite, limestone, marble, sandstone, slate, etc…), just to name a few.

Heavy Pivot Doors

Though large pivot doors can span from floor to ceiling and the pivot door hardware can handle heavy weights, the challenge to overcome is the obvious one: The large size and heavy weight can create problems over time causing the need for routine ongoing maintenance dealing with issues that compromise either the pivot door or the structure itself.

Heavy pivot doors can cause undue stress on both the hardware and the structure, requiring maintenance on the pivot hardware, frame and possibly the structure under regular heavy use.

Light Pivot Doors

One way to optimize large pivot doors for weight is to use a strong lightweight substructure that will not compromise the structure of the door. SingCore large pivot door substrate is perfectly designed for large pivot doors sporting additional features besides creating a solid composite door that weighs a fraction of an otherwise solid door. How else could you make a lightweight 16 ft. tall white oak pivot door that can be guaranteed not to warp for 50 years? You can find 8 of these doors on the top floor of One World Trade Center, NY.

Modern pivot doors with patented Sing Core inside are strong (660 PSI, stronger than steel pound for pound) and the torsion box structure grids are packed with rigid insulation (for added R-value and sound deadening capabilities).

Using Sing Core inside your pivot door can transform any heavy pivot door into a lightweight pivot door.

Large Pivot Doors Warp

Warping large pivot doors are one of the chief problems associate with large pivot doors – or any large doors, for that matter – especially if the large pivot entry doors are made using natural woods, which are elegant when installed but tend to move according to variances in heat, moisture and other environmental conditions.

There’s really no way around the natural characteristics of wood grain to bend, warp, cup or twist – that is – until now…

Guaranteed Warp-free Large Pivot Doors

Only large modern pivot doors with professional SingCore inside can be guaranteed to remain structurally sound and warp-free for 50 years.

Wood Stave vs. Wood Ply

Wood stave doors can be very costly to make, especially if you’re looking for a lightweight high strength solution for a warp-free guarantee for 50 years. Using Sing Core inside your wood stave door featuring wood planks from 1/8-inch to 1/2-inch will create more potential for warp due to the nature of natural wood grain. This is the beauty of the more economical wood ply option for building your wood door. Wood ply is far less expensive and has alternating grain orientation which also helps to keep the door straight. Wood plywood is just like any other plywood except for its featuring a particular wood grain predominantly on the surface, and it offers far more strength and repairability over time than a less expensive wood veneer.

So, if you’re looking to attain similar visual results of a solid wood door at a fraction of the price you might consider having Sing Core inside your wood plywood door. Be certain to specify what type of natural wood plywood you want, if it is available, you can save thousands of dollars on your beautiful wood door. The most popular wood plywood features woods such as white oak plywood, maple plywood, oak plywood, mahogany plywood, walnut plywood, Douglas fir plywood, knotty pine plywood, and birch plywood just to name a few.

That’s 50 years of high precision, high performance, low maintenance enjoyment of your breathtaking very large pivot door, guaranteed.

Sing Core manufactures an Eco-friendly pivot door core material used by the most high-end architects, designers, door manufacturers, millworks and contractors for building the best pivot doors in the world.

Glass Options: Sing pivot door is basically a Sing Panel (that can be any size) custom cut for your window lights (without compromising the strength) to achieve your desired results, and can even be used to duplicate the exact appearance of any other door (and have been used in antique restorations).

Maintenance: Large doors are heavy, requiring heavy duty hardware and cause extra stress on the frame and structure. Warped doors are a common occurrence associated with large doors. This can be annoying for the end user due to the constant maintenance calls required for dealing with the warping door (though it is good for the door service business).

Lightweight: No more heavy sliding doors or pivot doors weighing in at 1,000 lbs. or more. Now you can make a pivot door – even floor to ceiling oversized large pivot door – that can be less than 20% the weight of a traditional pivot door (as little as 4 lbs. per sq. ft.) which means longer maintenance-free performance and less expensive hardware (and less door and hardware repair).

Non-warp: Say, “Goodbye,” to your warped door. Only patented Sing Core enables door manufacturers to create doors that are true flat (far exceeding AWI standards for flatness) and are guaranteed to stay flat – not warp, bend, twist or cup – for a full fifty years.

Insulation: Your Sing pivot door is pre-insulated using pre-built torsion box panels (aka Reinforced Structural Insulated Panel RSIP) and never worry about damage, compromise or loss due to mold or mildew. Insulation value R3.5 to R6.5 per inch (or more according to architectural specifications).

Sound Deadening: Standard Sing pivot doors are equivalent to STC 13-to-30 depending on the materials selected by the client.

Eco-friendly: The structure of Sing Core is 100% natural and renewable vertical grain wood fiber. There simply is no other core material that is more natural or renewable than Sing Core’s structural material. The material is manufactured in the USA with less energy and less waste than other materials.

Thickness available: Sing pivot doors are available in any thickness up to 8 inches, or more depending on architectural specifications.

Easy to machine: Sing Core is easy to work with in the shop or on-site for sawing, sanding, adding solid wood implants, gluing, cutting and fastening.
