The Strength of Sing Core

Industry Leading Strength

We often mention Sing Core’s incredible strength and durability when talking about our door and wall panels, and we’re confident in that statement. As a customer, though, we understand that you may want more than just a promise in that regard, especially since our industry leading door and wall panels are so lightweight, they seem like they just can’t be as strong as the other options. Read on to find out why we beat out not only the competition, but full metal doors, as well.

What Makes Sing Core so Strong?

This is due to a few factors, the top of which being our patented honeycomb core that we use in almost all of our products. This wood and insulated core is designed in such a way that is incredibly strong, despite weighing a fraction of the other options. The interwoven lengths of wood provide a rigid structure that won’t bend, warp, or break. Plus, our doors are stronger pound-for-pound than steel. Then, our high quality insulation eliminates voids and protects against the harsh cold, sealing the warm air inside your home and helping to reduce your heating expenses.

While our honeycomb core is where the magic happens, we also laminate our panels with high quality wood to seal the core and add additional rigidity. By sandwiching our core between two high quality hardwood boards, we add another dimension of strength to our product. In addition, this provides impact resistance, as we don’t use cheap lumber like some of the other mainstream options. Overall, this provides a door or wall panel that can withstand tremendous force while still being so lightweight that it can often be lifted by one hand.

What are Some Other Benefits?

Sing Core panels receive other benefits from the strength of our cores, such as being 100% warp free. Due to our panel’s design, our products are guaranteed to never warp, and are protected by a 50 Year Structural Guarantee. If a door warps, many aspects of it and its function are lost or altered. For example, it may not latch properly, may form a gap, may distort the skin/finish on the door, may not open or close properly, and more. In addition to not warping, our doors are also incredibly impact and weather resistant. Kicking in one of our doors is more likely to break your foot than the door itself, and bumps, dings, and other forms of impacts won’t ruin or break through the outer panel. If, for some reason, your door does end up getting damaged, Sing Core panels are very easy to repair and return to full strength.

Why Should You Trust Us?

If we weren’t confident in the strength, durability, and integrity of our product, we wouldn’t offer a 50 Year Structural Guarantee. No matter what happens, if your door fails in any of the ways that we promise it won’t, we’ve got you covered. 50 years of promise means that we’re certain our door and wall panels won’t fail within that time, and even beyond.

Sing Core Security Door

Sing Core Security Doors

Your front door is the gateway between your home, family, and belongings, and the outside world. Nowadays, it’s not enough to just protect your home from the elements, your door needs to provide safety and security for you as well. Sing Core’s new Security Door provides the same durable and high quality comforts you’re already familiar with, with added protection against intrusion.

What is a Security Door?

A Security Door is used to provide additional protection and peace of mind over what a standard door can do. Whether used as an exterior door, an interior door, or even a garage door, our Security Door can bring this added safety to your home or business.

Sing Core door panels are already incredibly strong, resilient, and guaranteed to last, and we stand by those qualities. However, intruders are constantly looking for ways to bypass the protection provided by traditional doors. These methods can include using anything from a chainsaw, to a circular saw, to an axe. While we trust in the strength of our standard core, with enough time and strong enough tools, even they can be cut through. With our new Security Door, that changes.

Why Choose a Sing Core Security Door?

Sing Core Security Door Panels come with our patented high-quality honeycomb core and rigid steel reinforcements. The honeycomb core provides insulation, strength, and sound-deadening features, while also remaining incredibly lightweight. By adding the steel reinforcements, we double down on the strength and durability of the panel, making it incredibly difficult to cut or break through. Plus, the door remains impressively light for the quality it provides.

A traditional door can be cut through in less than a minute, and while it would often make a lot of noise, these break-ins are often done when no one is home, meaning you won’t be there to catch them in the act. Cutting through a Sing Core Security Door with the same tools would take substantially longer, and brings other challenges to the intruder, such being much louder, the likelihood of breaking a tool on the unexpected metal reinforcement, and a significantly higher chance of being caught.

In addition, these doors can be used in many cases aside from the standard front door scenario. Businesses with expensive equipment or sensitive documents may want to secure them in a more effective way, and luxury car owners may want a garage door that can’t simply be kicked in or cut through. You could even use Sing Core Security Panels to build a mobile and lightweight cabinet for on-the-go secure storage.

When it comes to your home, security is not an area where “good enough” is all you need. There are many ways you can improve the safety and security of your home, and installing a Sing Core Security Door is one of the most effective options. A break-in happens every 26 seconds in the United States, reaching 2.5 million break-ins every year, with over half being home burglaries. Let’s keep your homes and businesses off of that list.

19′ Pivot Entry Door

Interior view of extremely large pivot door with hardware

Case study:

A 55” wide x 19’ tall x 3.25” pivot door. With differing Cedar and oak wood stave skins.

Being approached by a client who is in need of a uniquely large pivot door to withstand the difficult climates of Lake Tahoe can seem like a near impossible feat. This pivot door needed to be lightweight for ease of installation and daily use by the client, impact resistant to hold up to everyday use, sound deadening to drown out the hustle and bustle of everything outside

A pivot door built with patented and patent-pending SingCore inside can make anything possible.

Exterior view of oversize pivot door with hardware

Opposing wood species

Dissimilar wood species on the interior and exterior of the door means differing rates of expansion and contraction. SingCore has the strength and stability to remain rigid against the push and pull of the dissimilar skins.

Lightweight oversize door

Lightweight

Now let’s take a look at why this door needs to be lightweight.

First off, big pivots doors tend to be very heavy which makes them more difficult to manage, they require custom made specialized hardware and require a lot of maintenance due to the stress that the pivot door adds to the structure.
Secondly a pivot door is only held with two points of contact on the top and bottom of the pivot door; meaning that if the door warps or twists, the door operation will be degraded or completely fail.

A pivot door this size with a solid core will weigh around 800lbs before any skins are added.
Now with SingCore, this door’s weight is a fraction of what other solid pivot doors would have weighed. This weight savings translates into a reduced overall budget by having lower shipping costs, lower hardware cost and lower cost for the labor of the installation.

Adverse climate for keeping oversize pivot doors straight

Ready for any climate
Lake Tahoe is known for its incredible skiing and breathtaking beauty. Not for its temperate climate.

This pivot door will see outside temperatures as low as 4°F while the inside temperature may be a toasty 76°F, which is a 72° difference.
SingCore pivot, sliding, hinge, and pocket door slabs are fully insulated with your choice of recycled EPS foam core (3.5 R value per inch) or urethane foam core (5.7 R value per inch).

Perfectly straight oversize pocket door

Straight
At 19’ tall this pivot door is as big of a challenge as it gets to keep straight.

All door slabs fabricated by SingCore are completely custom. The SingCore team takes into account the finishing, hardware, and climate when building each core. No two doors are alike. And we take great pains to ensure every pivot, sliding, pocket, and hinge door stays within AWI standards.

We love creating one of a kind oversize doors that no one else can.

In Memory of Professor William Miller

Professor William Mackay Miller, 2012

-Teacher, Scoutmaster, Veteran, Friend.

Professor William Miller was a very kind and brilliant man. In his 88 years, he served as a radio decoder in China in WWII, received his PHD in Civil Engineering from WSU, taught at UW for 32 years as a professor of civil engineering. He was a great parent, scoutmaster, lecturer, and friend. In his spare time and in retirement he spent his time in his extensive wood and metal shop creating many treasures.

He made many friends and long-lasting relationships, including being a Scoutmaster for Bill Gates. But none were as special as his relationship with Peter Sing and his SingCore inventions. William provided excellent advice and was a great educator to Peter. William was shocked of the strength and lightweight qualities. After performing test on SingCore Beams, he was blown away at its shear strength and structure support with use of renewable fibers. Peter and him because very close family friends in the years to follow.

William was loved and is missed by all of his family, friends and previous students.

Thank you William.

Large Sliding Doors

If you’re looking for the best large sliding door, you’ve come to the right place. Sing Core specializes in creating the ultimate sliding door experience. We manufacture the only door substrate that you can use to create the most extraordinary doors in the world.

The above picture is a demonstration of Sing Core’s strength.  Two 8’x9′ oak doors (approx. 800 lbs.) laying on top of two 7’x8′ curved doors.  The curved doors had no visible movement due to the high strength of Sing Core. As you can see, the eye plate is so small but can support such a large door panel.

These three curved panels measure 7’x8′ and are built to the highest precision and strength to last a lifetime.

Here is another example of a curved door with a smaller radius built with the exact same expertise.

Sliding Doors
The deal with sliding doors is that you want your sliding doors to remain straight and true throughout their service life. Architects, designers and end users face the issues associated with sliding doors, but rest easy knowing your sliding door has Sing Core inside.

Problems with Sliding Doors
The first problem with sliding doors is that they tend to move (warp, bend, twist or cup) compromising the doors’ performance. Especially in the case of sliding doors because they hang parallel to a wall (like sliding barn doors), next to another door (such as double sliding doors) or within a wall (like sliding pocket doors). If the door does not stay straight, it can wreck either the sliding doors or the surfaces they slide against, or both.

One way to overcome the warpage issue is to utilize stronger materials which tends to greatly increase the weight. The downside is that increasing the doors’ weight creates another set of challenge. For example, heavier doors require heavy duty hinges to support the doors. Heavier doors also require more labor for handling, installation, and any servicing it may require.

As you can see, this massive door is 8’x9′ and remains perfectly straight.  So straight, in fact, that it is perfectly freestanding on end!  If there was even the slightest amount of warpage, then this door would topple over.

Sliding Door Design Problems Solved
Architects and engineers are constantly perplexed with the problems associated with sliding doors, fortunately an Eco-friendly composite solution made in the USA, helps to solve the problems associated with faulty sliding door design. Patented Sing Core, along with their true flat door team, can help to create sliding doors that will remain straight and true far beyond the service life of any other sliding doors. By working with Sing Core’s design staff a combination of Sing Core and patent-pending sliding door stiffening solutions can create perfect sliding doors that are lightweight, high strength and can be guaranteed not to warp, bend, twist, cup or otherwise fail for 50 years.

These oak doors are manufactured with the highest precision.  As you can see, there is no gap between the two oak doors.  If they were slightly warped, or a little uneven, there would be a gap showing, possibly more.

The Perfect Large Sliding Doors
The best custom door manufacturers and millworks who offer long warranties on their large doors have a secret inside each one of their high end professional sliding doors: Sing Core inside. A properly designed and built large sliding door with patented professional Sing Core inside can be guaranteed not to warp, bend, twist or otherwise fail for 50 years.

Wooden Large Patio Doors

Large patio doors are often made of aluminum or vinyl out of necessity due to being exposed to the weather. Not a problem for Sing Core fail-free large patio door substrates and stile and rail frames. Whatever you need, you can find it at Sing Core, the large wood patio door experts.

Superior Rigidity

Sing Core technologies are rigid, the most rigid and dimensionally stable door core and warp-free technology.

As you can see, this door has been exposed to full weathering 100% of the time and shows no signs of warpage or failure. Our panel doors are used in the most high-end houses in the US.

The doors above are crafted with our true flat panels to have a similar appearance to stile and rail doors but have immense strength for any size door and/or any size light opening. On the left is a pair of 16 ft. tall French doors with multiple light openings, on the right is a 14 ft. tall door with a massive light opening.

The doors pictured above consist of our new stile and rail technology to support the light opening and our Sing panel for the other half of the door. The new stile and rail technology allows us to make our frames thinner than ever without sacrificing any strength.

WINDOW AND DOOR CUTOFFS

Sing Core provides Sing panels with window and door pre-cut and ready for installation. We will cut 1/8 larger in width and 3/16 inch wider in length to fit your window glass. We build a frame using 1.25 inch solid wood to your specifications.

MOLDING/TRIM

Sing Core windows and doors are profile ready for CNC routing. You may add molding or trim to create your own window or door design, otherwise we will provide you with thicker skin – such as 1/4 inch or thicker mdf, hardboard, etc. – for you to carve or profile by CNC machine. With Sing Core windows and doors you can create a true raised-panel door or any design you desire.

TRIMMED OR UNTRIMMED (RAW EDGES)

The standard ready-to-ship panel condition is, “untrimmed.” This leaves unfinished exterior edges that may have exposed adhesive and might require being built ½ inch over-sized for trimming at your location. An additional fee will be assessed for trimming and sizing in our factory.

All trimmed edges are 1/2 inch over width and 1/2 inch over length. After trimming, your Sing Panel will be 1/2 inch less (4 x 8 will be 47.5 inch x 95.5 inch). Standard solid wood edging with 1.5 inch will be reduced to 1.25 inch after trimming.

UNTRIMMED PANEL (RAW)

Many of our customers prefer their panels untrimmed because this allows them to trim their panels to exact size on site before installing them in their door openings.  That way they can have the peace of mind that their door will fit the opening exactly as intended.

TRIMMED PANEL

Customers who want their panels cut to exact size before they receive them should choose the trimmed selection.  This gives them the option of doing less work on site, but it also means they must be much more precise with their measurements before ordering their panels.  Trimmed also costs slightly more because it is more labor intensive to trim the panels in house.
