2. Importance of Surface Material

 

The skin material used on your panel’s exterior greatly affects how the substructure is built. Basically, the greater the tendency for the exterior surface material to move, the more of Sing’s True Flat engineering is required to create a hybrid substrate which will counteract the panel’s tendency to warp, bend, twist, or otherwise create a challenge in the field over time.

3. Sing Core Inside

The core of the panel in question can come in many different variations besides the patented and fully insulated, reinforced vertical grain torsion box core to match the high precision performance expectations of your project. Many considerations are made to determine the size of the patented structure grids as well as integration of patent-pending counter-warp materials to achieve desired results.

4. Thickness

Thickness of your panel and each of its features affects everything. For instance, it is much easier to keep a panel straight and true the higher the percentage of patented Sing Core is inside your panel proportionally. Even if your surface material is natural wood, your client might desire 3/8” thick material, when using 1/8” material is far more effective, and the difference is not noticeable on the end product.

How to Join Sing Doors

Gorilla polyurethane glue is an effective glue for joining Sing panels. We recommend consulting the glue manufacturer website for instructions on use of the adhesive. For Gorilla Glue, look here.

Failure to follow the joining instructions or the manufacturer adhesive instructions could void the
warranty on your panels.

Before you begin

Attention: Please read all instructions before starting to assemble your panel
Follow the acclimatization instructions before joining panels

1. Lay Your Door Panels Flat

It is crucial that all of your panels are resting on a flat surface and are completely level. If you attempt
to glue the panels together against a wall, or any way other than flat, you will end up with a crooked
joint and “warped” door.

The first step to join a Sing Core sectional door is to lay the panels on a flat surface.

For very large door panel assembly please place straight guide beams on top of sawhorses so the
bottom of the panel can be accessible.

Assemble on a Flat Work Surface

To ensure best results, it is critical that you assemble your panels on a flat surface. If you do not
have a work surface large enough, the best way is to build your own.

The best way to level your work surface is to lay guide beams end to end, then use shims to level
each beam. It is important to lay your beams perpendicular to the joints on your panel.

Uneven Floor Surface

For wider panels you will need more rows of beams to distribute the weight more evenly and to ensure flatness of the joined panel. Make sure to level each additional row of beams with your initial row that you have already leveled. Once your work surface is level, you are ready to join your panels.

 

2. Glue and insert Your Biscuits or Spline into the Edge of One Panel

Each biscuit and slot are precisely cut to join with the greatest strength. After applying the glue to the slot and biscuit, do not use an excessive amount of glue. If the air is very dry a light misting of water can help the bond and cure time of the glue. Carefully push or hammer each biscuit lightly in place into the edge of one panel. Tap in with a rubber mallet.

 

3. Joining the Panels

The final step in joining your panels is to press the sides together. This can be accomplished a variety of ways, including gentle application of a sledgehammer, a few ratchet straps, clamps, or any other means you have of providing joining force.

 

4. How to Clamp at the Join

When you want perfect alignment for very high tolerance applications, it’s best to sandwich each joint with a straight guide temporarily during the gluing process. Polyurethane Glue expands during the cure process. You will be ensuring the glue does not expand and bow the joints.

You will need:

Flat boards to clamp or screw to (depending upon the size of your panels); Clamps or screws to create pressure on the joint while the glue cures; and a flat surface. If your panels are so large that you need to use rows of screws to clamp the joints you will need to putty the holes before finishing.

When your beautiful new Sing Core door sections arrive, it is important to take the time to glue the door together properly using polyurethane adhesive. Although Sing Core panels are guaranteed warp-free, we cannot guarantee work done on site. Failure to properly follow these directions may result in a poor final product.

Sing Splines Don’t Crack

Sing Core uses our patented core material as a spine to join several panels on site. Unlike solid wood, the stability of the core material means that there is no danger of cracking or splitting of the seam at the join location.  When Sing Core fabricates your door as a single panel it is almost seamless.  When a door is splined, it is not as high precision as a single panel due to the tolerance of glue, which is roughly 0.01-0.02 inches.

Join on Site in Three Steps

1. Lay Your Door Panels Flat

It is crucial that all of your panels are resting on a flat surface and are completely level.  If you attempt to glue the panels together against a wall, or any way other than flat, you will end up with a crooked joint and a “warped” door.

The first step to join a Sing Core sectional door is to lay the panels on a flat surface. Any flat clean surface will work. For very large doors we like to use two straight beams laid on the ground along to hold the top and bottom of each door segment.

2. Insert Your Biscuits or Spline into the Edge of One Panel

Each biscuit and slot are precisely cut to join with the greatest strength. Carefully, push or hammer each biscuit lightly in place into the edge of one panel. Then your panels are ready for joining.

3. Joining the Panels

The final step in joining a modern sliding or pivot door is to press the sides together. This can be accomplished a variety of ways, including gentle application of a sledgehammer, a few ratchet straps, clamps, or any other means you have of providing joining force. Once joined, the door is strong and secure, built to last, and can be finished and installed as any other Sing Core door.

How to Clamp at the Join

When you want perfect alignment for very high tolerance applications, it’s best to sandwich each joint with a straight guide temporarily during the gluing process.

In order to make your process easier, Sing Core offers construct custom true straight guides for your application and ship them with your order. These guides are made with the same high precision core material as our other products and offer superior ease and performance.

How to Measure a Warped Door

How can you tell if you have a warped door or not?

There is an industry standard method of determining whether your door is warped or not.

To determine whether you have a warped door or not you will need a length of string (longer than the length or height of your door) and a measuring stick or tape measure.

a) Tape one end of the string to the edge of the door and the other end to the opposite edge of the door.

The string should be straight. If there is a gap between the string and the door’s surface, you may have a warped door.

b) Measure the gap between the string and the door’s surface area.

If the gap is greater than ¼” your door is warped (according to AWI standards for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors 3’-0” to 3′-6″ x 7’-0”).

c) If the length exceeds 7 ft. AWI standard applies to any 7 ft. section. Apply string to any 7 ft. span.

Contact your door maintenance company and send them two photos.

d) [1] Photo of the length of the string which shows as much of the door in its entirety, or at least from one end of the string to the other. Then [2] a closeup photo of your measurement of the gap.

Armed with these two photographs, which can easily be emailed to the millwork or door maintenance company of your choice, the recipients will be able to determine how best to approach the repair or replacement of your warped door.

You might consider replacing your warped door with a professional door which has Sing Core inside which can be guaranteed not to warp, bend twist or otherwise fail so as to avoid this pitfall in the future.

Storing SingCore Doors

After you’ve received your patented Sing products, if you will have to store them prior to finishing and/or installation, try to store them standing upright, on edge, with plenty of space in between, to allow air flow. Do not lean them against a wall. If you must store them stacked, wrap in plastic and place one or two sheets of plywood underneath and on top of the stack of Sing products. This will help keep the entire stack similarly acclimatized while not in use, otherwise, you may have to re acclimatize the top and/or bottom Sing products later, when you are ready to use them.

 

How to Store SingCore Doors

What if my door with Sing Core inside is warped?

The same standard method of determining and measuring any door with Sing Core inside is used just like any other door (as noted above).

Contact Sing Core about your concerns about your door being certain to include the two photos as noted above.

If you have purchased a professional door with Sing Core inside, you may be the recipient of a replacement Sing door.

Note that upon arrival and un-crating of a door with Sing Core inside, a door may appear warped (and indeed it will be measurable). This is normal for a door which has been packed and in transit. Stand your door on its edge at least twelve inches away from any adjoining surface area, allowing it to acclimatize for up to 72 hours. Measure your door again and you will find it to be straight and true. If not, document for warp (as above) and contact Sing Core.

In the event that a professional door with Sing Core inside is warped (which is highly unlikely) your help in determining the cause of the door’s warping is appreciated. Please assist documenting the chain of custody of your professional door with Sing Core inside, including the millwork or door company which finished the door, and the installers who installed the door, to help us insure your replacement door remains warp-free.

Standard 3-0 x 7-0 Door Specs

General Specifications

Standard Sing Core 3 0 7 0 doors are manufactured with patented Sing Core material as the base interior substrate of the door. The Sing Core substrate material is created using a vertical grain natural wood torsion box design while the traditionally empty voids are filled wall to wall with recycled foam. The standard foam material is recycled rigid EPS foam. A 10-inch natural wood lock block is positioned centered at 37 inches for door knob and locking mechanism placement on both sides of the door. The core material is wood framed by 2-inch natural wood for finishing strength and attaching hardware. The torsion box is completed by adhering an exterior surface material (skin) in your choice of paint grade (Birch ply), wood veneer(s), or natural wood stave. Bonding agent used in adhesion of the entire composite material is formaldehyde-free.

Standard Sing Core 3 0 7 0 Doors include frame perfectly suited for the door of your choice and ready to hang. Specify either 2×4 or 2×6 wall thickness to determine frame size for door installation (not supplied by Sing Core).

Every Sing Core manufactured door is finished to specifications and guaranteed for 5 years for structural integrity.

Scope: Subject to local building codes, the standard Sing Core door is intended for use in:

  • Single family dwelling interior applications
  • Multifamily dwelling, low-rise professional office, library and low-rise motel interior applications

Preparation: Per manufacturer’s specifications, ensure that door frame openings are constructed plumb, true and level prior to installation. Select fasteners of adequate type, number and quality to assure proper function.

Installation: Installer shall be specialized in the installation of the type of work that is associated with the project and will comply with manufacturer’s installation policies and procedures to ensure proper end use.

  • Verify that hinging and latching assemblies operate freely and correctly

Finishing: The standard finishing and sealing of the Sing Core standard 3 0 7 0 door includes paint grade (Birch ply), wood veneer, or unfinished natural wood stave. Additional finishing options include your specifications at additional charge.

Machining: Sing Core standard 3 0 7 0 doors are easy to work with in the millwork shop for CNC machining or on-site for finishing, sawing, sanding, cutting and fastening. No specialized skills or equipment is necessary, other than standard woodworking tools are necessary. Treat Sing Core doors just like you would any other standard wooden door blank.

Strength Performance: Patented Sing Core has an unsurpassed strength as compared to other lightweight substrate materials tested at 660 PSI (based on 2″ x 2″ grids and 3/4″ thick) for superior structural integrity and is resistant to warp, twist and crack when compared to other materials.

Besides paint grade for the surface, we also provide solid wood stave laminate on both sides of the sliding door. Wood stave is easy to work with and will last. Your Sing wood stave door will be more high precision than solid wood door (less warping, and twist and crack) due to Sing Core’s extremely high tolerance (+/- .006 inch) and, rigidity and high strength (660+ PSI) and professional grade wood grain and wood stave doors are certified and guaranteed not to warp, bend, twist, or otherwise fail for 50 years.

Sing Core provides hot-press ready door blanks to door manufacturers who add wood veneer on both sides of Sing door blanks which are made of Luan skin or marine grade plywood sandwich with patented Sing Core in the middle, solid wood around 4 edges and wood block implants where needed for hardware.

Note: Veneer has to be handled very carefully every step of the way during production (we prefer to let the millworks handle this delicate procedure) and it is easy to damage by users over the years (but wood stave can be easily sanded and repaired).

We offer a very good price for wood stave doors, the cost is not much more than wood veneer doors.

3 Hardwood Plywood Door

We could make door with hardwood plywood as an effective way to make super large doors that you can stain any color. Up to 4×8 doors have no seam, but by orienting the grain horizontally, you can achieve a nearly seamless presentation on really big doors or extraordinary size.

Available in any available wood species, most common are Sapele, Oak, and Maple ply.

Sing Hardwood ply door has excellent strength, yet is lightweight, features good insulation and better sound deadening qualities than solid wood plank doors.

What We Do

We do the job that no one else can do. We do not do the work that is better left to more qualified and skilled trade professionals. The reason our clients seek us out is to perform the parts of the job that would not be possible without the use of patented Sing Core. It is the unique combination of what we do best and what the experienced trade professionals do best that results in creating the best if the best, highest quality end products possible.

We have solved the age old problem of warping doors, high end large doors that are lightweight yet extremely strong with the best warranty in the high end door industry. This same invention helps other industries meet or exceed the high expectations or requirements of their most demanding clients.

Sing Core is a patented solid torsion box hybrid core that is lightweight and high strength. We have developed and manufacture this revolutionary building material here in our Pacific Northwest factory. Part of our manufacturing process includes laminating flat exterior surfaces, or skins, to our proprietary core. Our clients often trust our lamination expertise and request our adhering additional flat building materials to the faces and edges, though many of the manufacturers whom we supply apply their own materials to the surface areas of our Sing panel.

We do participate with architects and engineers on the specifications of products which are built for specific applications for a guaranteed life-span (i.e., 50-year warp-free guarantee) to make certain the Sing product meets or exceeds high performance expectations.

We manufacture all Sing products in our factory in McCleary, Washington, assuring every item is proudly made in the USA.

We ship Sing products directly from our factory to our customers in the United States all over the world.

What We Do Not Do

While we can do a great many things, we leave certain areas of expertise to the industry professionals whom we supply with patented Sing Core products. That said, we do not build any finished product. While we are renowned for the most magnificent large doors built, and the only Eco-friendly lightweight high strength doors in the world, we do not build doors. These luxurious doors are finished by find crafts people who have the highest level of skill and competence which makes our product so beautiful.

We do not do any finishing of any Sing product(s) or build any finished Sing products.

We do not engineer, certify or have any stamped or code-approved stock items. For instance, we do not sell fire-rated doors, even though we build doors to engineer approved fire-rated specifications, which are rated, approved and/or stamped, but this is done by the door companies or other clients.

Likewise, we do not build sound-rated doors, even though we have built doors to architectural specifications which are used and may be rated as acoustical doors and sound proof walls (we even have a local sound testing and rating laboratory nearby, which may be used at customer’s expense). We supply the best door panels for door manufacturers and millwork to meet their client’s demands such as fire rating, sound proof, even bullet proof, etc…

We do not install glass in Sing products, although we can custom pre-cut and/or frame for lite cutouts, which are ready for glass installation by the company responsible for finishing the product.

We do not have stock items, with very few exceptions (i.e., trade show panels) and we do not ship to residences unless it is a job site being managed by our wholesale-approved client.

We do not sell retail. We are licensed only for wholesale and do not ship Sing products to anyone who is not in the business and qualified to expertly finish and ensure proper installation of Sing products.

Sing Core manufactures door blanks made exclusively using patented Sing Core and patent-pending Sing warp-free stiffeners to create door blanks which are paint grade, or surfaced with any available flat surface building material, such as any available wood species, aluminum, brass, cold rolled steel, concrete, copper, diamond plate steel, fiberglass, FRP, galvanized steel, hot rolled steel, Kevlar, LVL, MDF, and stainless steel, just to name a few.

Receipt of Sing Door Blanks

In most cases, when receiving a multiple Sing Core order, where Sing door blanks have been shipped in a stack, or side by side, it is perfectly normal for even a warp-free door blank to appear to be warped upon receipt. Usually, the Sing door blank(s) which face the outside of the crate, or the top of a stack of warp-free door blanks will appear to be warped. By acclimatizing these doors, they will straighten out to their straight and true flat appearance.

Acclimatization

To acclimatize your Sing door core, stand your door on its edge at least twelve inches away from any adjoining surface area, allowing it to acclimate for up to 72 hours. Measure your door again and you will find it to be straight and true. If not, document for warp and contact Sing Core.

Door Storage

After you’ve received your patented Sing products, if you will have to store them prior to finishing and/or installation, try to store them standing upright, on edge, with plenty of space in between, to allow air flow. Do not lean them against a wall. If you must store them stacked, wrap in plastic and place one or two sheets of plywood underneath and on top of the stack of Sing products. This will help keep the entire stack similarly acclimatized while not in use, otherwise, you may have to re acclimatize the top and/or bottom Sing products later, when you are ready to use them.

Fabricating

Note: Use protective eyewear such as goggles or safety glasses, cover your nose and mouth with a filter mask when cutting Standard Sing Core Insulated Reinforced Torsion Box Sliding Door Blank w/Stiffeners Door Blanks. Always position the panel so the saw blades enter the exterior side first to avoid chipping and damage.
Any drilled holes or cut-outs must also be filled and sealed with an approved sealer to maintain the original panel warranty.

Finishing Sing Core Doors

With proper care and maintenance, professional grade doors created with Sing Core inside can be guaranteed not to warp, bend, twist, cup, or otherwise fail for 50 years.
Doors built with Sing Core inside are shipped to the millwork, door company, or custom door manufacturer unfinished. Finishing of the door should be completed directly following the receipt of the door blank to protect your investment.

Proper finishing is required to ensure the warrantied condition of a door with Sing Core inside. Please note that if a failure to finish your Sing product in a timely manner contributes to a defect, the defect would not be covered under the warranty — and the Sing Core warranty does not cover issues associated with improper finishing. Please refer to the warranty.
Sing Core is recognized as the leader in high quality Eco-friendly door manufacturing. However, finishing of Sing Doors is the responsibility of the experts entrusted with completing the details of door blanks provided.

The local finisher will coordinate with Sing Core to assure your door is finished properly in regard to finishing options to assure your door will perform best in your regional location taking into consideration exposure to the elements, changes of seasons, temperature and humidity.

Finishers will follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding application, storage and disposal of finishing products.

Maintenance

A minimum requirement to assure the long-term performance of your Sing product annual inspections of the door must be conducted to ensure the warrantability of your Sing door. Annual cleaning, repainting, or restaining your Sing door as needed will ensure the performance of your Sing door over time.

Annual inspection includes checking for corrosion, peeling, or cracks on the door’s surface. Problem areas must be touched up as soon as possible to prevent further compromise or damage.

Any sealant material should not be cracked, broken, or missing. Any damage to the Sing door or structure due to improper or insufficient maintenance is not covered by Sing Core’s warranty.

The standard Sing Core Insulated Reinforced Torsion Box Sliding Door Blank w/Stiffeners consists of base core material of patented Sing Core, enhanced with patent-pending stiffening technology sandwiched between two exterior faces. Standard facing material is Birch ply. Sliding door blank is framed with 1.25-inch natural wood for finishing strength and attaching hardware.

 

Condition of standard Sing Core Insulated Reinforced Torsion Box Sliding Door Blank w/Stiffeners is unfinished. Finishing to be completed by professional door manufacturer, millwork, or custom door builder.

Most common size is 10 ft. tall, 5 ft. wide, 1.75 inch thick. Custom sizes and alternate external faces are routinely ordered and manufactured on an “as specified” basis with minimum quantities and extended lead times.
