Tiny House FAQ

frequently-asked-questions-faq1) How can I get Sing Panels to use in my Tiny House?

  • The demand for Sing Sandwich Panels in tiny house building is huge, be aware that we do not sell to end-users, only wholesale (unless you are purchasing a Sing Tiny House Kit).
  • Contact your local sheet goods supplier or lumber yard and ask for Sing Core.
  • This saves you delivery time as well as additional packaging and shipping costs which could be more than the material cost.

2) How do I learn more about Sing Core?

  • Most everything you would want to know about Sing Core is available online at www.singcore.com. Please feel free to learn by studying our web site.
  • We do not field calls for questions about Sing Core, but any questions that you may have can be answered by your architect, designer or contractor.

3) What is inside the walls of the tiny house?

  • Our Tiny House panels can be manufactured with either EPS or urethane foam.
  • EPS would be best for Tiny Homes that are in a fairly temperate climate with not a lot of temperature extremes.
  • Urethane foam would be best for Tiny Home locations where you get a very broad range of temperatures so as to be less impacted by the changes and don’t want to use as much energy to heat your tiny house.

4) Does my Tiny House come already painted/stained?

  • Our Tiny House walls (exterior & interior) come paint grade, any finishing to get panels ready for painting/staining are up the customer*.
  • *It is important that customer finish their panels with a paint/stain/some kind of siding, especially on the exterior to provide a level of weather protection.

5) What are the advantages of using Sing Tiny House Panels?

  • Lightweight: Our panels are lightweight, which makes your tiny house easier to transport (either flat-pack or erected on a trailer) because of the lightweight qualities makes it cheaper to transport because you use less fuel.
  • Flat and Strong: Our panels stay flatter and less prone to warping which make putting your tiny house easier to put together, in addition our honeycomb panels are 1/3 or more lighter than solid wood panels but are stronger than the average RV/Trailer which uses standard plywood.
  • Economical: Our tiny houses are more economical to move than compared to standard RVs, our tiny houses will last longer, stay useful longer, which gives you a better return on your investment on your tiny house.  Add wheels for road towing. Build Sing honeycomb tiny house on top of the trailer to show off your energy efficient life style. Sing honeycomb trailer home is only half of the weight of other frame type of tiny house on the trailer.

6) Do you have any floor plans or design services?

  • No, we do not have any kind of floor plans or design services because with our panels the sky is the limit, we allow our customers the freedom to explore their imaginations and the web to come up with a design that will fit their dream tiny house and their budgets.  We want your tiny house to reflect your personality, not what we could think of for you.

7) Do your tiny houses come with any accessories?

  • We do not offer accessories or other building materials, because like question #4, we don’t know your budget, your desires or your likes/dislikes and to help to keep cost down with our panels we don’t have any accessory inventory to try and sell to you our customer.

8) How do I install electricity in my Sing Tiny House?

  • The electric wire can be installed through the top, bottom, and even in between each panel. The wire is then routed out of a channel, and then covered with trim. Another way of wiring the panels would be to cut a groove into the Sing Honeycomb panel, then cover the groove by gluing a piece of molding or trim on it. Gluing molding or trim on the groove will also reinforce the panel.

9) How do I install plumbing or gas/propane in my Sing Tiny House?

  • The larger pipes can be installed either underneath the flooring or on the surface of a Sing panel. If fastening a pipe to a Sing panel, use 2” x 2” studs, then cover the piping with a faux wall (siding or another panel).

10) Where do I get furnishings for my Tiny House?

  • Please visit www.singcore.com furniture section, Sing honeycomb furniture is easy take apart without damaging for easier more efficient shipping and storage.

11) What is the R-value of the Sing Panels used to make Tiny Houses?

  • The R-Value of Sing panels using EPS Foam is 3.5 per inch. The R-value of Sing Panels using Urethane Foam is 6.5 per inch.

12) Are there any other insulation options for my Sing Tiny House?

  • The R-Value is based on what kind of foam is inserted inside Sing Core’s wood torsion box structure (see previous).
  • Custom foams could be substituted per your specifications at added cost.

13) Does this price include tax?

  • Prices do not include sales tax. We only collect sales tax on Tiny Houses delivered within the state of Washington.

14) What do you charge to ship Sing Tiny Houses?

  • Shipping of your Sing Tiny House depends on the size and destination for delivery. We use a variety of shipping methods including commercial freight lines and independent Tiny House delivery drivers. We always do everything possible to get you the best rate for on-time delivery of your Sing Tiny House.

15) Do Sing Tiny Houses have a tight seal?

  • Due to Sing Tiny House panels being perfectly straight, they have a tighter seal than 2×4 or 2×6 stick framed Tiny Houses which bend, warp and twist. Sing Tiny House panels are true flat and will not compromise your tight seal.

16) What skin options are available for my tiny house?

  • Almost any flat sheet goods can be used as interior skin of Sing Panel
  • For exterior surface facing the weather you might like to use an exterior material like metal, aluminum, galvanized steel, plywood or cement board
  • Other skin options include (but not limited to) plywood, HPL, 3 mm cement board, wood stave (1/8 or 1/4 inch thick wood strips) aluminum and metals

17) Do Sing Tiny Houses come with roof panels?

  • Panels are included in Sing Tiny House Kits to cover the Tiny House. Standard roof panels do not come equipped with roofing material, which is added by the contractor or recipient on site at the build location.

18) Can you help me build the lightest Tiny House?

  • We do not provide you with design assistance, just the building material. Compared to other tiny houses your Sing Tiny House will weigh less and have more usable interior space.
  • Example in identical 130 sq. ft. tiny houses on wheels: Traditional=5,600 lbs. Sing Tiny House=2,600 lbs. (light enough to tow by economical automobile).

19) How thick should the wall be in my Tiny House?

  • The thickness of your Sing Tiny House wall could be 1.125 inch thick to 3 inches thick, but the ideal thickness is 2 inch
  • It is strong lightweight and easy to work with current cam lock system and edge banding (2 inch edge banding is common size for Sing panel as trade show panels).
  • Click here to see how to assembly the wall of trade show panel wall it is similar to tiny house even regular house wall.
  • 2 inch floor and roof is fine (3 inch floor and roof even better if budget allowed for extra insulation and stiff floor.

20) What skin options are available for my Tiny House?

  • If you are looking for super lightweight and long lasting Sing Panels for walls without siding, galvanized metal and aluminum skins will be a good choice, besides 1/8 inch marine plywood (people use it to build canoes by coating with epoxy and fiberglass)
  • 1/4 inch plywood is the most common due to being lightweight and super strong. With proper prime coating, it will last for years.
  • if you have good budget use exterior grade 1/4 inch plywood or 1/4 inch marine plywood (even better). 1/4 inch thick plywood Sing Panels are solid enough to nail or screw siding over by add 1 in. x 2 in. vertical strips over w/4 inch panel then add layer of insulation or vapor barrier before add siding which could be wood(see Pic), vinyl (see Pic), or even metal (see pic)

21) What kind of fastening system should I use for my tiny house?
We do not design or recommend a fastening system, but we do see people using the following methods:

  • For walls, floors and roofs, use biscuit joining, T and H joining methods
  • Cam lock are very popular (especially if you plan to assemble, disassemble and reassemble) then add molding and base boards to reinforce the wall
  • The best way to fasten Sing Panels to other Sing Panels permanently is to use urethane glue

22) So I can make a temporary tiny house that I can break down and flat pack?
Yes:

  • if you are looking to take the entire tiny house apart to panels to panel than use cam lock with tip plate and base molding screw panels to panels —-this modualr tiny nouse kits is necessary if you are looking to build in the back yard which do not have access for a 8 ft wide tiny house,,,,,just bring in pc by pc and take disassemle it pc by pc, if this is the way to build in the challenge place

Sing Home Inc. mission statement: To make life easier, Sing Honeycomb Panels are simple to build with, simple to use and are built to last and this makes them beautiful, so Simple is Beautiful.

Lightweight high strength reclaimed cedar carriage doors sing core storyMirrored Carriage Doors

I FINALLY just had my facing finished! AAAAHHHH. I think they came out pretty great. I designed the face I wanted and gave it to my guy. He found some reclaimed cedar from an old garage and put it on and milled the rest. I didn’t want to chop holes, so I created the illusion with mirror. I think they came out Fantastic and they hardly weigh a thing. Thanks again for your help and great doors. Now I just have to paint the molding and it will be finished!

Thanks for the follow-up, I’m very pleased with the panels an how they have worked out with my project. As you can see, I framed them with poplar molding, glued in place with waterproof glue, and painted them to seal against the weather.

I brag on these panels all the time and everyone is always impressed.

Thanks again,”

Steve

Yes, the panel worked great. As mentioned when I ordered it, I used it as a drawing board.

Standard drawing boards for artists–at least the lightweight variety–are not very large.

I needed something that was very light and perfectly flat that would hold large pieces of paper and would also accept pushpins.” Amy

Direct quotes from recent customer:

What did you think of the panels when they arrived?

They looked just as I expected. High quality workmanship and to my

exact specifications.

What was it like working with them to get the design you wanted?

Very easy to work with. The panels were totally flat and square.

What did you think of the panel’s weight in comparison to their size?

Weight came in as expected which is very light compared to a solid wood

door.

Do you think that our garage door panels are equal in strength to

standard garage panels?

I think these panels are stronger than standard garage doors.

Definitely stiffer.

If you were to do another project similar to this would you buy our

garage door core panels again?

YES.

Would you tell other people where you got your door cores from?

YES.

Please tell us in your own words about your experience with our panels.

I have nothing to complain about with regards to the entire

experience. Customer service while ordering the doors was top notch.

Price was great. Shipping/delivery was easy. Fabrication of my doors

was straightforward.

Thanks for getting in touch.

Yes, the panel worked great. As mentioned when I ordered it, I used it as a drawing board.

Standard drawing boards for artists–at least the lightweight variety–are not very large.

I needed something that was very light and perfectly flat that would hold large pieces of paper and would also accept pushpins.

If you are interested, i think you could market this product to artists.

I don’t think there is anything on the market in terms of oversize drawing boards.

Thanks again.

A Testimonial from Dave Kellog – Dave Kellog is the first Sing Home customer to build in Wyoming. He’s beginning with a 24′ x 36′ multiple use cabin, and will later add a large Sing Timber residence. Dave writes:

“The project is going extremely well… the building is 24′ x 36′, and after the foundation and floors were poured, I got to wall height (10’3″) in just seven days… All work has been completed by me alone…so this has been a one person operation. I have had a lot of interested folks stop by, all very curious about the Sing Timbers. I think when I get the house and garage built, I may spec one just to see how well it sells! It has been a lot of fun so far, just like building with big Legos, and boy is this thing solid! I really like the Sing system, it is wonderful for ‘do it yourselfers’, especially if it is only yourself doing it!”

Dave Kellog

A Testimonial from Bob & Linda Freeman – The Freemans built two Sing Homes, a 24′ x 24′ cabin w/ garage, and a 2000 s.f. prow front home. They write:

“We built the garage/bonus room last year because our home in Bellingham was still for sale. We wanted to see if Sing Logs was what we really wanted. It turned out better than we thought it would. They are easy for people who know nothing about construction work. They look great and the logs are very strong…stronger than conventional post and beam. How do we know? We are now building the house attached to the garage and I had to cut the door opening. It was really difficult to knock the door out, even after it was cut with a chain saw! The logs also make the interior quiet, and through the winter, it was toasty warm with just a propane stove.”

Chuck Dudley – Pioneer Home Services – I was introduced to the Sing Home concept about 5 years ago and have since built 4 of them, with 2 more coming up.

I was introduced to the Sing Home concept about 5 years ago and have since built 4 of them, with 2 more coming up in the Spring. After having built with their product, I do not want to build again using conventional framing. There simply is no comparison in quality, stability and strength, longevity, energy efficiency, or beauty. The cost is comparable to a custom stick-built home, but with so many more advantages. There is also a financial advantage with a Sing Home. As soon as the home is completed it can easily be worth more than a third more than it cost to build. Can I recommend a Sing home? Absolutely I can! I stake my reputation of 35 years in construction on the Sing Home product. Chuck DudleyPioneer Home Services

The torsion box core holds the Sing Metal Panel flat so that it will not warp and sag. A 16lb steel hammer will easily dent a steel or vinyl door, but not a Sing Metal Panel. Because Sing panels are efficient to produce, they are more affordable than solid steel panels.

Advantages:

Eco friendly – Sing Core uses more renewable materials than any other type of composite panel. Sing Core also last many times longer than most of its competitors. It takes very little energy to produce Sing Core panels with our recycled and renewable structure material.

High Strength – Sing Core is much stronger than paper honeycomb ,aluminum honeycomb, and plastic honeycomb. A 2 in x 2 in piece of Sing Core was tested by the University of Washington and reached 660 PSI. The core grid is more than 10 times the strength of aluminum honeycomb with the same size of grids.

Lightweight – As light as 4 lbs per cubic foot.

True Flat – Sing Core aluminum will stay straight even the drastic swing by temperature and moisture change.

Fully Insulated – With EPS or urethane foam (R3.5-6.5 per inch).

Sound Deadening – Sing Core panels feel like solid wood panels, they do not sound hollow like other types of honeycomb core.

Fast Delivery – Any thickness and almost any length, less than 5 ft wide, can be made with in 48 hours if it is rush order.
