Folding Modular House Competition

Four years ago a company introduced a concept that was recently presented to Sing Core. An excellent idea that did not work out well due to not having access to the adequate building materials.

This aluminum shelter was a great idea and design, being unfolded and assembled quickly is a magnificent concept for a temporary structure, but not being insulated makes it only a high quality tent structure, or a hot box in the sun.

Take the Challenge

Sing Core would like to partner with the right person/company to redesign this insulated folding and/or modular concept.

Sing Core will provide you with the materials to build a complete insulated (up to R6.5) 8 ft x 19 ft structure. We will supply windows, door, gray water tank and hinges for folding design at below cost. Structure materials will include reinforced torsion box Sing Sandwich panels with aluminum exterior surface (paintable and weatherproof) and plywood, aluminum or HPL interior walls.

We believe in this concept and the value that it would have to the world at large. As easy and quickly as they can be built, they could be dismantled, broken down and moved to another location with little cost or effort.

Last year, we introduced our World’s Smallest House being built in five-and-a-half minutes to battle homelessness and to provide moveable temporary shelter.

This is the next logical step, and Sing Core is the missing ingredient in designs that were not accepted by the marketplace at large.

One design re-conception included making the base of the structure a four-foot-tall box/container that would house all of the living components i.e., the countertops, sinks, toilets, furniture, etc… the rest of the upper structure materials could be folded atop (or fit inside) this base. See drawings below (this design includes a two-piece Dutch door to accommodate folding, though many other options exist).

Tiny House Mobile Small Home on Wheels

Patented Sing Panels have been used in many industries such as home building, boat building even in the aircraft industry.

Making its way to the forefront recently are advancements being recognized by the tiny house community. These tiny house designs are springing up all over the United States (and the world) in the smallest footprints on existing properties, or being transported and towed, like a portable house, small modular home or tiny house on wheels.

Don’t Be Framed

Sing Core products including the Sing Sandwich and Sing Panel have a built-in torsion box structure that delivers superior strength over long spans. With this Eco-friendly building material, the most environmentally conscious affordable home advocate can build a tiny house without the traditional 2×4 or 2×6 frame.

Architecturally, not having to frame your structure yields more precious useable space inside your small home plans. Many Sing Tiny Houses have been built without a frame using 1 ¼” thick Luan skin Sing Sandwich panels. See the structural strength of these 1.25 inch walls in the photo to the right. That is a wall that is 1.25 inches thick compared to the 2×4 wall that is at least 4.5 inches thick, this is wasting 3.25 inches and not as strong as sing Core’s 1.25 inch wall. (Note that the loft beams and roof structure are supported by frameless 1 ¼” thick Luan skin Sing Sandwich panels only. That’s high-strength!)

Connecting Panels

Many methods are available to assemble your panels. Some people chose to use pre-installed cam-locks (especially if the project might need to be disassembled and reassembled), other methods include traditional screws or nails and we like the performance of urethane-glued assembly (which is stronger than other methods).
