Millennium Tower Seattle

The Millennium Tower

The skyline of Seattle is adorned with beautiful spires and towers, and the Millennium Tower is one of the structures to call that sky home. Standing at over 280 feet tall, the Millennium Tower is a testament to luxury and design, as it is home to 19 prestigious condos and sits right off the water in Downtown Seattle.

The Millennium Tower was designed by the Olson Kundig architect firm, and the individual homes within were designed by the architects from Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership. This brilliant combination of efforts has led to one of the most incredible living spaces in the Seattle area, and Sing Core is honored to have been involved in this project.

Sing Core was contacted regarding a large pocket door for the interior of the tower, specifically within one of the condos, measuring 54.5 tall inches by 111.5 inches wide, and 2.25 inches thick. This door weighs approximately 200 pounds, which is substantially less than a door of this size would if made using traditional methods and materials.

Why Sing Core?

Sing Core has long been sought after for use in high end and luxury homes, penthouses, and more. Our patented and patent-pending technologies allow us to create the highest quality lightweight door and wall panels, without compromising on strength or durability. Our panels can be made to nearly any size and specification, and are pound-for-pound stronger than steel. These features, along with the many other benefits of Sing Core, are what led the design teams to utilize our product.

Another large reason the company decided to go with Sing Core was in regards to the type of door they were wanting. Our panel was used to make a large pocket door, which are notoriously difficult. First, pocket doors are a variant of sliding doors that slide into a “pocket” within a wall instead of sliding in front of the wall itself. These doors must be perfectly straight, otherwise they will not fit within the tight space in the wall. Pocket doors are also severely limited on their weight, as a heavy pocket door can prove difficult to use and damaging for the hardware.

Another major complication with pocket doors, especially of this size, is the risk of warping. A warped door is never good, and often leads to total structure failure and replacement. The larger the door, however, the more likely it is to warp due to the increased tension on the surface. Plus, with pocket doors, even the slightest warp can ruin the door and stop it from functioning. A little bend can cause the rollers to jam or break, or if the warp is significant enough, it can start to scrape along the wall inside, or get stuck in the pocket entirely. Luckily, Sing Core doors never warp, and are guaranteed to not warp or fail for 50 Years.

A Successful Project

Despite all of this, an excellent design, a skilled construction crew, and a flawless Sing Core panel led to a gorgeous condo within this incredible building. Unique projects such as these are what allow the luxury design world to thrive, and Sing Core is proud to have been involved in something that is such a testament to this industry.

7 Years Later, Sing Core’s AIA Donation

Seattle’s Center for Architecture and Design had their grand opening 7 years ago in March, 2016, and they have stood as a pillar for the architecture and design industry ever since. We are honored to have worked with the AIA to construct this beautiful place. Their confidence in us and our product was felt, as this was a major project that had a lot of work put in from start to finish. It all started with an amazing design plan and incredible vision for the limited space they had available, and together with the great teams working on this project we were able to build the wonderful gallery that can be seen today.

Seattle Center for Architecture and Design

As a chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the Seattle Center for Architecture and Design welcomes and promotes many different styles and techniques of architecture, hosting valuable presentations and events in their welcoming gallery. On display they have many different subjects of the architecture and design industries, and many people visit the center from open until close to see these marvelous features and discuss these themes.

During their grand opening, the Center for Architecture and Design was in need of some large, adjustable walls and doors to manipulate the gallery as needed. Their vision was to have walls that could be adjusted to create a beautiful, open space for guests, but could also be turned as to create a closed area to hold meetings and conferences. Sing Core donated the wall panels needed for this grand project, as well as customized them with additions such as a man door, allowing an easy entrance and exit even when the room had been closed off. The donated panels were actually so large that the front windows had to be temporarily removed, as the product would not fit through the door!

In addition to the adjustable walls and doors Sing Core donated, we also provided furniture for the office in the form of high end desks, shelving, partition walls, and more, all using our patented and patent-pending Sing Core products.

These grand adjustable walls are still in place today, and can be seen as a main piece of the Center’s gallery. They were created and still function to serve one main purpose: to maximize space in an innovative way. And while Sing Core is proud of our donation, we also owe a significant compliment to the incredible teams that designed the floor plan and installed the doors and walls, as their excellent skills and labor were just as essential in creating this space.

Texas Society of Architects

Sing Core also provided our panels at a discount to the Texas Society of Architects by AIA for use in their offices and building space. The location had a significant noise problem with their high, industrial style ceiling, and they needed high end panels to cut down on the echoes and residual sound. By installing Sing Core panels in strategic places, they were able to significantly cut down on the noise and establish a far more relaxed and focused work environment. Once again, this could not have been done without the incredible design and installation teams who perfectly utilized the Sing Core panels..

Conclusion

Sing Core is proud to be a platinum donor and support these AIA locations and the amazing things they do for the architecture and design community. If you are a member of the AIA, please share this article with your fellow AIA members, and we welcome you to reach out about any AIA project like these so that we can continue to help the organization, and we would be honored to do so at a discounted rate to help your budget. Seattle’s Symphony of Architecture and Design Center for the State of Washington

sing pivot doors in center for architecture design seattle with man doorsGreen building materials are the focus point of every architecture design now-a-days. As the home of the architect and design community for State of Washington, which is the leader in high tech and advanced materials playground for searching the planet for green, earth-friendly products is essential for this new home for all designers and architects.

In the temple of Seattle’s Center for Architecture & Design, the evergreen state sets the standard for promoting the highest standards of preserving our green earth among the Pacific Northwest architectural community while seeking out new ways to approach a more sustainable approach with building products that save energy and add longevity to the overall life of projects around our local communities and the world.

The idea of a local design center is not new, but the Seattle design center is the leading edge of this new technological approach to new office designs; bringing to life the idea of a multi-functional design combining office space, media, meeting and a gallery to promote green design permeating all areas of life and our society.

It all starts with the composer / architect of the project; with Ric Peterson’s design of Suyama Peterson Deguchi, while leading the team of the designer of the total project which includes a varied line up of suppliers, general manufacturers and fabricators to tackle the most challenging job to represent the state’s finest architects and designers. When all is said and done, the resulting space in this center represents the new philosophy and concept of engineering for a better world within the office space that has superior functionality as it is easy to maintain and built with the longest lasting building materials.

The symphony’s composer is Ric Peterson, FAIA of Suyama Peterson Deguchi was charged with the challenge of creating a design center work of art. The score is conducted by general contractor / conductor of the symphony, Krekow Jennings supervising all components while acquiring and arranging the performers (trade professionals such as sub contractors) participating in the creation of the newest chapter in executing the design by using green building materials made locally, produced with less energy and waste used throughout this project. The resulting masterpiece is a modern office, meeting room and gallery in a picturesque downtown location as a perfect showcase for professional trades and an inviting exposure to the general public. The whole job will not happen if without all the support from the donor of their trade skill to help such as painters did all the paint work for the furniture, and Schuchart/Dow craftsmen did all the assembly which basically started from patented Sing Panels, all in flat-pack which is easy and takes up less space for shipping to the job site avoiding damage during transport, and the end result is a new chapter of this ornate symphony of building art; simple, functional and elegant.

FAIA Mr. Peterson is a senior architect for Suyama Peterson Deguchi (SPD) responsible for providing the solutions to build the multi-function 4800 sq. ft. space by creating a gallery that could be converted to a conference room within minutes to hold secure meetings within the center itself. It needs a special pivot door when it open it is a large gallery, when those 4 doors closed it become a conference room. All the furniture, work tables, islands and counter tops are quickly and easily assembled on site

About the large pivot door: Mr. Ric was able to accomplish the door solution by teaming up with inventor, Peter Sing, whose lightweight, high strength building material made it all possible without the use of heavy equipment, lifts and cranes. After being invited to join the project, Sing offered to supply not only the doors but almost the rest of all the office furniture, partitions and even part of the dining table/work table and cabinets in the lunge and office areas – all made of patented Sing panels, same core materials to build those 4 large pivot doors.

About the large pivot doors: There are four 12 ft. x 10 ft. x 5 inch thick doors, It starts with patented Sing core as door panel each weighing around 500 pounds each for easy moving as shown at above pic. Each door was installed in less than a half an hour. These unique large extreme edge pivot doors were manufactured in Washington state using patented Sing Core as the embedded structural core material. those door had added two more layers of material on the job site to create sound deadening and fire retardant features, Even with his lightweight, high strength core material, the wall feels as though it is made of solid stone, when you knock on it. Two of the doors feature a built in man door for simple access when the area is secured as a conference room. Four doors are easily 12 ft. x 10 ft. 2,000 pound pivot doors by the time completed provide the conversion from gallery to conference room quickly and easily.

About the furnishings, desks, tables and partition walls: Office area are also with totally new design approach with new leading edge patented lightweight , high strength eco friendly Sing panels. all those office furniture are assembly on the site by use patented Sing panels all flat pack after paint by painters and hand carry to the designer center, some shelf / table top and partition wall are over 12 ft. in length. Each of the panels are designed to be able to be carried by one person.

Assembling office furniture from sing modular panels lightweight high strength seattle center architecture designThe features of the office and lounge areas are simple but elegant in the functional execution of the artist’s design concept. All the furniture features adjustable legs to maintain work surfaces at high precision instrument grade levels. Up to 8 foot clear span work areas are neat and clean while keeping all power and other cords neatly hidden from view by an embedded wire management channel system that is an effective design component within the work areas. Single piece partitions that span up to 12 feet provide privacy and security while standing flawlessly amidst the efficiently accurate space.

Not resorting to raised level work areas provides an effective approach to cleaning and maintenance of the floor space that is both easy and saves time. all the wiring are hidden within the desk top and shelf channels, instead build raise floor as most commercial office space which takes more space and more assembly time and lose more precious space.

Completing the symphonic work, Sing and his patented product “Sing Core” is joining the team of suppliers that is bringing the dream of Seattle’s design symphony to life.

Hearing about this project might cause you to wonder how an entire facility of this magnitude could be quickly and easily assembled out of multiple integrated modular panels. This is the first time such a grandiose project has been built completely of lightweight high strength panels that are not only sound deadening but are resistant to warp, bend or twist, even while covering long spans and featuring natural wood surfaces.

Thanks to Sing’s lightweight material, it took less than 2 hours to unload and install those huge pivot doors (weighing-in at only 500 lbs.) and three craftsmen assembled and installed all the office and lounge components and furniture. Sing Core it the new Eco-friendly building material that has helped to create the strongest most lightweight office furniture ever invented in the world, creating endless possibilities to provide architects, engineers and designers the ability to provide sustainable long-life office furniture and so much more…
