19′ Pivot Entry Door

Interior view of extremely large pivot door with hardware

Case study:

A 55” wide x 19’ tall x 3.25” pivot door. With differing Cedar and oak wood stave skins.

Being approached by a client who is in need of a uniquely large pivot door to withstand the difficult climates of Lake Tahoe can seem like a near impossible feat. This pivot door needed to be lightweight for ease of installation and daily use by the client, impact resistant to hold up to everyday use, sound deadening to drown out the hustle and bustle of everything outside

A pivot door built with patented and patent-pending SingCore inside can make anything possible.

Exterior view of oversize pivot door with hardware

Opposing wood species

Dissimilar wood species on the interior and exterior of the door means differing rates of expansion and contraction. SingCore has the strength and stability to remain rigid against the push and pull of the dissimilar skins.

Lightweight oversize door

Lightweight

Now let’s take a look at why this door needs to be lightweight.

First off, big pivots doors tend to be very heavy which makes them more difficult to manage, they require custom made specialized hardware and require a lot of maintenance due to the stress that the pivot door adds to the structure.
Secondly a pivot door is only held with two points of contact on the top and bottom of the pivot door; meaning that if the door warps or twists, the door operation will be degraded or completely fail.

A pivot door this size with a solid core will weigh around 800lbs before any skins are added.
Now with SingCore, this door’s weight is a fraction of what other solid pivot doors would have weighed. This weight savings translates into a reduced overall budget by having lower shipping costs, lower hardware cost and lower cost for the labor of the installation.

Adverse climate for keeping oversize pivot doors straight

Ready for any climate
Lake Tahoe is known for its incredible skiing and breathtaking beauty. Not for its temperate climate.

This pivot door will see outside temperatures as low as 4°F while the inside temperature may be a toasty 76°F, which is a 72° difference.
SingCore pivot, sliding, hinge, and pocket door slabs are fully insulated with your choice of recycled EPS foam core (3.5 R value per inch) or urethane foam core (5.7 R value per inch).

Perfectly straight oversize pocket door

Straight
At 19’ tall this pivot door is as big of a challenge as it gets to keep straight.

All door slabs fabricated by SingCore are completely custom. The SingCore team takes into account the finishing, hardware, and climate when building each core. No two doors are alike. And we take great pains to ensure every pivot, sliding, pocket, and hinge door stays within AWI standards.

We love creating one of a kind oversize doors that no one else can.

High Precision Doors

Sing High Precision Doors are a marked improvement in door development, design and implementation thanks to a newly invented Eco-friendly core material that is lightweight, insulated and stronger than steel pound for pound.

This new technology is revolutionizing the door industry especially in regards to large oversize doors. Architects, designers, mill works and door manufacturers all experience problems with doors that are larger than normal size.

Large doors present a variety of challenges in areas, like:

  1. choice of available materials
  2. lightweight doors are weak and tend to fail
  3. Copper-Doorheavy doors strain hardware and structure
  4. increased regular maintenance
  5. failure due to warping

Sing High Precision Doors solve all these issues with an Eco-friendly insulated solution.

How high precision are Sing High Precision Doors?

Sing High Precision doors are created with so much accuracy that the original door slabs are perfectly flat within .0006 inch accuracy.

After applying your desired composite materials and/or skin, your high precision door can be laser CNC machined for a perfectly flat surface, limited only by the accuracy of your CNC machine shop capabilities.

The Large Challenge

Certainly, you could use laser CNC cutting and engraving to machine nearly any door made of almost any commonly used door material for a flat result. The challenge comes from standing the door upright and expecting a degree of effective usefulness over time.

lightweight high strength engineered plywood for making large sliding doors aluminumWhy Large Doors Fail

The effects of gravity, varying degrees of moisture and/or atmospheric change, and the natural limitations of the characteristics of the building materials that comprise the door all contribute to its failure. This causes dissatisfaction for the end user, who has invested a great deal of expense in the design, manufacture and installation of this specialty large door.

Door warping is the number one problem for oversized doors that are otherwise enjoyed by the most discriminating end users.

The Disappointment

No one wants to spend that kind of money on a door that is going to warp, bend, twist, delaminate or compromise the structure or hardware with normal recommended use.

Now, here’s the exciting part…

Sing High Precision Doors can be guaranteed not to warp, bend twist or otherwise fail for 50 years!

No other building material can be guaranteed to maintain a true flat surface and milled with laser precision for long-term maintenance-free performance for 50 years. This is why you can find the growing demand for the Sing solution from beneath the sea (US Navy) to outer space (NASA) and everywhere in between.

The high precision Sing solution is not just for doors; turned flat these very same Sing Panels can become floors, tables, counter tops, ceilings and roofs. Turned on their sides, these patented panels become walls, moveable partitions or virtually any other type of application.

Big Aluminum Door

Patented Sing Core’s unique attributes enables us to make the biggest doors that are lightweight, extremely strong and Eco-friendly. Sing Core produces the only affordable solution to building a big door that can be guaranteed true flat… and will stay flat for lifetimes. Sing Core doors are pre-insulated and are resistant to climate change, bend, warp, twist, rot and insect threat.

big-aluminum-doors-37-foot-tallBig Doors for Your Big Expectations

Sing Core can help solve the challenges facing architects and designers. Obviously size is where Sing Core shines, but we also help solve other issues that face designers. Some of the functionality solutions that we help to provide include:

Lightweight

The larger a door becomes the heavier it gets. This can be a huge problem because these heavy doors cause strain on the structure and hardware. Lightweight big sing aluminum doors help to mitigate the damages of traditionally too-heavy-to-be-practical doors.

High Strength

There are other lightweight panels solutions that use honeycomb technology, but they simply do not have the strength, that is why the aerospace community is looking at Sing Core. Other lightweight composite core material used in aircraft are may not be heavy, but only weigh-in at 10-to-100 PSI, while Sing Core has been tested at 660 PSI, and could be upgraded to meet nearly any specification(s).

Eco-friendly

Green-eco-friendly-sing-coreIn this topsy-turvy world, Made in the USA Eco-friendly Sing Core is the true green building material that supports our commitment to make the world a better place for all of its inhabitants, while being the most significant, revolutionary new building material invention to be introduced in this century.

Affordable

When compared to other materials, like other space-age composite panels, Sing Core is not only more environmentally friendly but costs much less that the others. Why not get all the added value and benefit of Sing Core at a fraction of the price?

True Flat

One of the problems of big doors, is that they tend to warp or twist over time, making a secure seal all but impossible compromising your project and calling for continued maintenance. Not so with your big Sing door, which can be customized to be true flat literally forever even under the most rigorous conditions.

Stay Flat

It’s one thing to install a big door, especially a large sliding door, and have it be flat when installed… but only a Sing Core big aluminum door will stay flat, virtually forever. This means huge savings in maintenance costs due to having the door’s flatness fail over time.

Pre-insulated

Sing Core’s big aluminum doors are all packed with insulation imbued with an R-value that saves energy, while offering sound dampening qualities. And these values can be custom-suited to meet your specifications for energy efficiency or sound proofing.

Traditional-Torsion-Box-DiagramElement-proof

Your Sing big aluminum door is resistant to climate change and can handle the most extreme weather conditions per your specifications. Due to Sing Core’s unique vertical grain torsion box design these big aluminum doors are will not bend, warp, twist, rot or suffer damage due to insect or vermin assault.

How big can a Sing Door be?

To date, less than 50 feet for a single door panel is no problem… and we would certainly welcome the challenge of providing a solution that exceeds the 50 foot barrier.

How to Attach Wood Planks to Sing Panels

Add-stiles-and-rails-to-your-sing-door-as-anchor-points-drawingSing Panels are so versatile, you can do just about anything with them.

As a matter of fact, prepare to adjust your thinking, because thanks to Sing Wood Planks you can,

Say Goodbye to Tongue and Groove

Tongue and groove joinery is designed to keep wood planks flat when attaching because wood moves. Natural wood (or most any wood product) tends to warp, bend or twist due to environmental changes.

Not necessary when using Sing Hardwood that is created true flat and will stay flat indefinitely.

What if you needed to attach wood or tongue and groove planks to the surface of your Sing Panel?

No problem.

Just make sure that you order your Sing Panel with the solid wood (or other material) implants to meet your requirements.

You can add stiles (vertical implants) or rails (horizontal implants) to have the anchor points that you need to match your expectations.

The only caveat, is that you must leave at least 12 inches of Sing Core material on either side of the implant in order not to compromise the sustained flatness of the lightweight, high-strength panel or door.
